TJ Maxx's philosophy of community involvement is a real plus for the Suffolk Literacy Council. With a $5,000 grant for SLC to celebrate TJ Maxx's March 2011 Grand Opening at 6253 College Drive E, store manager Patrick Corwin demonstrated their intention to put their "money where their mouth is." The SLC was honored to be part of the Grand Opening.

For 2012, plans are already underway to partner in other ways as well with the store's 50 plus employees. Tutor training on site, an SLC 25th birthday celebration at the store and an open house for TJ Maxx staff at the SLC office are in the works.  One of the more practical ways our partnership will benefit our students is that the tutors and their students can visit the store together and, with the help of a staff member,  improve life skills by learning how to read clothing tags and care instructions, for example.

The SLC is delighted to be in partnership with TJ Maxx, a store whose dedication to the Suffolk community is already making a difference in our city.
